The MEDIAWAVE International Visual Art Foundation was founded in 1991 after that local and nationwide film and music associations and foundations succesfully organized the first international festival in Győr.
These organizations were the following
• Visual Workshop of Győr
• Hungarian Independent Film and Video Association
• ECONO Visual Brigade
• ADYTON - Association for Improvised Music
But the roots are deeper and wider. MEDIAWAVE as a volunteer, independent, civil cultural initiation is rooted in the underground or alternative later called as „parallel” art movements at the turn of the seventies and the eighties, which were tolerated by the socialist outlook on arts.
The Visual Workshop of Győr (descendant of the Amateur Film Studio) clustered most of the independent filmmakers and photographers in Győr. In the first part of the nineties the ADYTON Association collected and saved the improvisative music in the country. With the passing of time these two groups merged into the foundation and the festival. At the end of the nineties the cooperation ended with the two other organisations.
SPHERE OF ACTIVITIES - TODAY
