PASSPORT CONTROL 5
International Film Workshop
SCHEDULE FOR THIS WEEK
2008/16.
02th - 08th of June 2008 / 23st week

Dear Spectator,

This week you can watch the results of PASSPORT CONTROL International Film and Photo Workshop which was realized in November, 2007 in Kars, a mainly Kurdish - populated town in East-Turkey.
The workshop took place between 9 and 15 November, 2007 with the support of "FESTIVAL ON WHEELS" 13th Festival of European Films. The editions of PASSPORT CONTROL Workshop organized by MEDIAWAVE is getting more and more popular around the world, and it gets a lot of invitations to abroad as well.

The first two editions of the workshop were organized in MEDIAWAVE Festival in 2006 and in 2007, when the organizers didn't think about the export of the project. It was only after the first invitation to Siberia that we recognized it as a pioneer project, which brings together young filmmakers and photographers from all over the world and make their cooperation possible. We found it quite essential, since however talented you are if you are closed to your own environment and cannot have any experiences from the outside world.

The 4th edition was realized in a place, where parents usually don't let their children go because of the false news you can get from media. Participants, of course, weren't children but about in an age of 20-30. All of them had proved to be the new generation of film industry or the world of photograph with their former works. Naturally the work circumstances were different from those at home, but don't think now of those false pictures mass media floods on you day by day. OUr young participants had to face the different culture of the Kurdish and Turkish people living their, and had to adapt them to be able to work (shoot film or take photos) in their world, since the cast of the films or photos were choosen from people living there. So it was a great adventure, but all of us got on well with the difficulties as well. You can find out how their way of thinking have changed about this territory since they got there if you watch the interviews made with them just after the workshop in a documentary: "The Town of Snow".

Briefly about the final result: 6 short fictions and experimentals were shot during the workshop on S8 (with the support of KODAK Hungary). Almost every filmmaker participant shot on S8mm, as their leader teacher, Ferenc Török did it, too.
Three additional short fictions, several documentaries and video clips were also made. A tiny selection out of the huge amount of pictures, photographs the photographers took can be found in the photo gallery of MEDIAWAVE. You can read „Diary from Kars” at the same place, and soon you can watch the interviews with the participants and their werkfilms, trailers as well.

If you are interested in the background of the workshop, you can read additional details of it in  "DIARY FORM KARS"-
