SCHEDULE FOR THIS WEEK
2008/17.
09th - 15th of June 2008 / 24st week

Dear Spectator,

PASSPORT CONTROL 6 International Film and Photo Workshop takes place next week in Subotica and Palic (in Serbia) next week - in the co-operation of ETNOFEST (Subotica, Serbia) and MEDIAWAVE. That's why we selected the films with the scene or theme of Vojvodina for this week programme of MEDIAWAVE WEB TV. We hope the films will serve as a kind of inspiration for the young participants of the workshop coming from Serbia and Hungary to co-operate with each other during their creative work in this exciting environment.
We, the staff of MEDIAWAVE find art life in Vojvodina really important , since we got a lot of inspiration for our Festival from there. We can say honestly, that one of the most important characteristics of MEDIAWAVE, namely its basic atmosphere has a Vojvodinan origin.
We got countless things from them, now we attempt to give them back their favour. Their land, which was once part of Hungarian Plain, then it belonged to Yugoslavia, later to Serbia-Montenegro, and nowadays to Serbia, hides a lot of interesting things.
Since the beginning of the '80s we have visited from time to time Novisad and Subotica. Once art life in the former Yugoslavia was much more progressive and avantgarde than Hungarian contemporary one. It served us as a precedent to see how easily the representatives of the different fields of art could co-operate with each other: like musicians with dancers, poets, etc. You could find no traces of it in Hungary. Ethnical diversity of the artists didn't lead to enmity or ignoration, rejection of the other ones' cultures, but to co-operation where artists gave inspiritaion to each other.
It was this Vojvodina, described above, which we got excited about. And the films are also about this Vojvodina. We are looking for this Vojvodina right now, too, to introduce our young participants to it, thus to create their own version about it, too.
Instead of any more descriptions here comes those archive films which keep the atmosphere of life in the '80s...

GRENCSÓ István & HARTYÁNDI Jenő:
SOMEWHERE IN CENTRAL EUROPE
58 min. (1993)
Documentary fragments from the work and life of Tolnai Ottó, Sziveri János, Ladik Katalin, Balázs Attila, Döbrei Dénes, Nagy József, Bicskei Zoltán...

SZOLNOKI József:
DREAM IN THE MIST / MOMENTS OF THE SOUL

22 min. (1994)
Lyrical portraits about the members of artistic life in Voivodina during a photo exhibition: RÉVÉSZ Róber photographer (YUG) - LAJKÓ FÉLIX & DRESCH TRIÓ (YUG/HUN) - KOVACSEV OLGA painter (YUG) - BICSKEI Zoltán graphic (YUG) - MEZEI Szilárd Ensemble (YUG) - PEIN Attila historian (YUG)

HARTYÁNDI Jenő:
BELIEVE YOU ME, THIS IS FÉLIX LAJKÓ!
40 min. (1995)
The underlying problem with portrait documentaries on performers is that they either confuse the emanation from the artist who opens up on stage of identify it with the man who lives behind his works. It is always via his music that we try to grasp the virtuoso as an individual, however, the opposite way holds: music comes form your life. This picture presents the source for virtuosity as being a search for partners, fights with an often uncompromising audience, ordeals during rehearsals and the tension of practice sessions. I wanted a film sketch on Félix Lajkó, the young violinist from Vojvodina, so that his talks with eagles and butterflies would be more telling than those music and filmic cliches at hand. Obviously, film is the art of deception or cheat. This is my version. Do not be sure it is true! It is a film sketch because you need to continue, you need to find further approaches. I want to coin the term 'continuous film'.

VILLÁNYI László & HARTYÁNDI Jenő:
THE FLAMINGO'S KNEE - A PORTRAIT OF OTTÓ TOLNAI
45 min. (2001)
Ottó Tolnai is one of the most original artists of the contemporary Hungarian literature. As an extrardinary guide, the film takes his viewers to those worlds where his works spring from: to Ó-Kanizsa, the ranch, the Adrian sea, Szabadka, Palics, and to his home, Homokvár. We get acquainted with the weird characters of these worlds, the old cheese-man from Ludas, the people from the ranch, the Casanova of Kanizsa, the porcelain collector, the neighbours in Palics. This unusual portrait reveals the backgrounds of his poetry, it is a unique introduction/supplement to his work.

VILLÁNYI László & HARTYÁNDI Jenő:
CASSANOVA FROM KANIZSA
17 min. (2001)
Ottó Bicskei, retired Cassanova comes from Magyarkanizsa (Vojvodina) but now lives on the seaside of the Mediterranean Sea beside Split. Before the Yugoslavian war, he had to decide abot staying in Vojvodina with his wife or choosing the Croatian seaside. Croatia received them into their country. His friend, Otto Tolnai - poet from Vojvodina - is interviewing him about his youth, when he studied the women's spirit and body with scientific thoroughness. Ottó has instructive stories about the preparation before the action, e.g he ate in another way if he knew that he would have 3-4 action that day. He was said to be able to satisfy the most complicated types. This ability started his carrier. It is no exaggeration to say that he comprehended his ability as a service.
