Over the borderline of Historical Hungary, in Romania, Moldva, there exists a group of Hungarian of 200.000 population. Tha Csángó people of Moldva speak a Medieval dialect of the Hungarian language. One of the researchers of their origin and traditions is Pál Péter Domokos, now in his eighties, who was expelled from Romania some 30 years ago. The theme of the film is centered around his memories and today's reality. In a Csángó village we were astonished by their ancient Hungarian folk music and folk traditions. After the Ceausescu regime failed most people still felt fear. They kept telling us with ancient Hungarian language that they are not Hungarians but Chatolic Romanians... Previous story of the journey: Right after the Romanian revolution (December 1989) in January, we set off to Transsylvania with Hungarian musicians - Dresch Quartet, Grencsó Collective, Tatros band -with the intention of freely recording the spirit of Transsylvania and the disengaged states after the revolution. Now we know that these moments happen very rarely in people's lives. At the first stop of the trip the musicians gave an unforgetable concert in the House of The University in Cluj. Then we set off in groups to the distant places of Transsylvania and Moldva that could have been difficult and were not allowed to be approached before. I went with my group to Moldva through Gyimes to map the folk traditions and music of these two Csángó groups. This film can be said to be the first version of the Gyimes-films.
