The first part of the film is about the first protest in Budapest after the Hungarian Revolution in 1956. This protest was organised in 1988 against demolishing the villages in Transsylvania (Romania) and it was the first manifestation of the Hungarian nationalism after a long time. Here there was no revolt but tense silence and crowed of one hundred people. This was the time when we set off with a Super 8 camera to Transsylvania abused by Ceausecsu where - after the relatively still mood in Hungary before the regime changed - we found ourselves in a world full of fear. I will never forget the experience when we started to talk with the local people in the first village. They were happy that they could talk to their folks from Hungary and scared that nobody could see how pleasently we were talking to each other. The second part of the film is made up of our first Super 8 records, some photos to fill in the gaps and our secret sound records about lamentations of people and priests' preaches. Romantic picture of Transsylvania born from the first shock and recognition with alll of its awkwardness. As for apology, at that time there were no official records in Hungary reflecting the reality in Transsylvania. So these pictures are - if nothing else - footprints of an enthusiastic period. The films became public under pseudonym because we didn't want to risk the film to get out again. The danger was real: next time S8 films were taken away from us on the border.

This film was made by copying experts from one VHS tape to the other. This was a temporary period for the amateur artists who had become independent film makers in the meantime. The Super 8 mm film technique was difficult to be provided by raw material and the popular video technique was a temptation because it was cheap and easy to process. However only the very simple VHS technique was available for the independent film makers. That is why the films did not have such good technical quality and could not be edited properly. New and seductive possibility with serious technical deficiencies. That was the time when the Super 8 film technique started to deteriorate.
