On the day of our National Holiday numerous artists recieved Kossuth or other national art awards on 15th of March who are basic figures of MEDIAWAVE mentality. More of them recieved the "Parallel Culture" Award which was founded by MEDIAWAVE in 2001.
GYÖRGY SZABADOS - Kossuth Award
He is famous of his contemporary improvising music all around Europe. He is a decisive, basic figure of MEDIAWAVE improvising music mentality.
He recieved one of the biggest Hungarian musical award, the Ferenc Liszt Award in 1983 among other very prestigious musical and art awards since than (2001- Magyar Művészetért, Szabó Gábor életműdíj.)
His strong musical world follows and builds the new wave of music. The "Parallel Culture" Award was given to him in 2009 on the MEDIAWAVE Festival.

ISTVÁN OROSZ - Kossuth Award
He has been awarded with numerous prices like the National Hungarian Meritorious Artist, Béla Balázs and Mihály Munkácsy Awards for he graphical art, he is a university teacher in two different institues.
He is appriciated for his traditional, individual work outside the country as well.
More of his animations were screened on the MEDIAWAVE Fesztival. His film "Sakk" ("Chess") is part of this year's fil programme.

ANDRÁS BERECZ - Kossuth Award
Folk song singer, folk tale teller, Hungarian tradition guard. He collects folk songs and folk tales in all Central Europe for thirty years, he is a literary translator and his presentations are full of wonder.

MIHÁLY DRESCH - Hungarian Meritorious Artist Award
Mihály Dresch is one of the most important, style creative Hungarian jazz musician, music writer who bases his music on traditional Hungarian folk music.
He fits perfectly into the MEDIAWAVE music mentality, he is in fact one of the basic figures. Actually he performed on all of our festivals alone or with one of his bands.
Last time with Hamid Drake, Lafayette Gilchrist, Mátyás Szandai on MEDIAWAVE Selective in Őriszentpéter.
The "Parallel Culture" Award was recieved by him in 2002 on the MEDIAWAVE Festival.

JÓZSEF NAGY (FRA/YUG) - Hungarian Meritorious Artist Award
Josef Nadj was born in Vojvodina, lives in France as a world famous dancer-coreographer-actor-director. He won the Oscar of the theater world, the Europe Big Award of the European Theatre Union (this Award was given to outstanding 20th century artists such as Peter Brook, Ariane Mnouchkine, George Stehler, Heiner Müller...)
He is the director of the Dance theatre in Orléans (Centré Chorégraphique d'National Orléans) which is one of the most excellent contemporary theaters of the world. He is also working in his birth town, Magyarkanizsa, in a project called József Nagy Local Creative Workshop. His connection to MEDIAWAVE grows back to two decades and he recieved the "Parallel Culture" Award in 2009.

Our Foundation applied for a European Union Culture (2007-2013) grant framework program last autumn and now that their decision became public. We happily considered that the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency centered in Brussels supported our ideas.

Fred Anderson (March 22, 1929 – June 24, 2010) was an American jazz tenor saxophonist who was based in Chicago, Illinois. With a distinctive forward-bent playing posture, Anderson's playing was rooted in the swing music and hard bop idioms, but also incorporated innovations from free jazz, rendering him, as critics Ron Wynn and Joslyn Layne[1] have written, "a seminal figure among Chicago musicians in the '60s." You can watch the films and photos made during the 18th PASSPORT CONTROL Workshop in Szombathely, at the same time with MEDIAWAVE Festival. Soon the concert video of the Roma-Hungarian Ethno Workshop led by Gabriella Tintér and György Ferenczi will also be available. Even the catastrophical weather conditions couldn't stop MEDIAWAVE Festival's jazz and environment weekend in Őriszentpéter. Surprisingly - even for organizers - the shed theater's hall was filled for the excellent international jazz concerts. Romungro Fiúk, a band from Csorna that counts as MEDIAWAVE Festival's own house band, and that got a push in the acoustic-international ethno workshops of György Ferenczi, boosting their musical development, was recently awarded by FRINGE Pécs2010 Festival's special award. At the same time they got the opportunity to participate in the international talent programme Roots&Routers. Congratulations to Vilmos Csuha and Péter Horváth!
