Group 180. In 1982 from behind the Iron Curtain artist from Hungary we had our first Western concert tour to Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Cologne, Paris. This film was shot on S-8 film, fine followup of ours minimal music concert tour.

This clip was shot during the first quarantine period. We were trying to show the strange, precarious situation that people were facing then (and in a slightly different way, but of course now), and we understood it.

The hamsters live and work in Hamsterland, a perfect state with a perfect economy. The GDP grows steadily, there is no unemployment, and 100% of the population declare themselves to be happy.
Ivan Bondarenko: Not For Me (RU) 8 min
A young man is going to the country to gather mushrooms. On his way to the country, he meets a young girl. The impression of this fleeting meeting changes both his inner world and the reality around him.
Katarzyna Kijek, Przemysław Adamski: Slow Light (PL) 11 min
A boy who was born blind, suddenly at the age of seven sees a light. A medical examination reveals that his eyes are so dense that it takes seven years for the light to reach the retina and hence for the image to reach his consciousness.

Lecsó is a traditional Hungarian recipe and it is originally made with bacon. Vegetarian narrator Florá said: ‘The rich taste changed everything for me!’To place value on this, I exclusively developed the film with Tomatol.
Piotr Bieliński: Imprisoned (PL) 20 min
Batory is a boy in a girl’s body. We meet him when he is serving a prison sentence in the Warszawa-Grochów Detention Center for frequent travel by city train without a valid ticket and beating his ex-girlfriend’s boyfriend.
Arthur Bálint: Small-Town Barber (HU) 42 min
A family barbershop of a small town is under renovation. They talk about crucial thoughts of life. It could happen in any other places in the world.

Ibolya Simó: Never in Love. 52 Years of Faithfulness (HU) 15 min
József, a deaf-mute senior athlete trains for his running competitions with no limits. He has passionately lived his dreams, while his disabled wife has only done so in their 53-year-marriage.
Antonio Spano: Amuka (BE) 71 min
The Democratic Republic of Congo could feed almost 1 in 2 people on Earth. Yet one in six Congolese people suffer from hunger. Faced with this paradox, the peasants regroup in agricultural cooperatives.


18: 30-20:45 CRISES & RENEWAL 1.

Péter Szalay: RapeRooms (HU) 52 min - without subtitles
RapeRooms (Other flowers of Imre Bukta a famous Hungarian contemporary fine artist) The film, which waves on the waves of Kovid, started on the day of the 2020 curfew. The duel between the artist (s) and the stealth virus is still relevant today, although it can be overcome with some irony.
Ahmad Saleh: Night (PAL) 16 min
The dust of war keeps the eyes sleepless. Night brings peace and sleep to all the people in the broken town. Only the eyes of the mother of the missing child stay resilient.
Taye Cimon, Pierre Coëz, Julie Groux, Sandra Leydier, Manuarii Morel, Romain Seisson: Code Rose (FR) 5 min
In the open sea, a flamingo lands on an aircraft carrier. To keep the runway clear and get the planes to take off, the military have to get rid of it. But the flamingo and its congeners return relentlessly to put pink on the grey war machine.
Olga Samolevska: Chas Nedyatiachy (war reflection) (UA) 60 min - English subtitles
This film that avoids rhetoric, but warns of the dangers of fueling World War III. There are elderly Ukrainians who survived World War II when they were kids. All united by a bitter experience of unforgettable tragedies. Now Ukrainian kids are witnessing a new war. Let’s look at the war through the eyes of the children.

Rodrigo Sena: The Traditional Brazilian Family KATU (BRA) 25 min
The Guardians of the Atlantic Forest and their resistance to current problems in contemporary challenges such as the environment and agribusiness, evangelization in villages, drug abuse, indigenous education and higher education.
Denis Ramos & Ferdinando Formisano: Manish (FRA) 75 min
Manish is a polio-disabled boy, who flees from the provinces of Sierra Leone to Freetown during the civil war. He joins there a group of disabled beggars and starts a new life in a dilapidated house. His life takes a new turn when two young people show up in the squat. Despite the ever-presence of poverty, violence, and death, all hope is not lost.

Unprocessed is a documentary about the memory of the Roma killings of 2008-2009. The film is inspired by the theater group “Romano Teatro” and the rehearsals and performance of their play commemorating the hate crimes, titled ‘The Smile of Hate’.

Barbara Spitzer: Uncle Judy Part 2 (HU) 51 min
Throughout all his 95 years the late Jakab Glaser, uncle “Judy” was connected to the Teleki Square in Budapest. Today, 22 Teleki Square is the onlyJewish praying house that has survived and has been continuously in operation since its foundation, for more than 100 years now - thanks to the male members of the Glaser family, including, until his death, Uncle Judy. Who went through everything that the past century had in store for Hungarian Jewry.

Steve Spremo: Ice Cream. Sladoled (US) 13 min
A Day in the Life of a thirty-something immigrant caught in a rut. He lives in a place where everyone speaks a different language and no one understands anyone else. When his wife asks him to buy ice cream, his day unravels as misunderstandings sink to absurd misadventures.
Grégory Carnoli, Thibaut Wohlfahrt: F*cking Head (BE) 22 min.
Stéphane, returns to his hometown to watch a soccer match. After going to a Flemish nightclub. But the exit does not go as planned. We don’t choose the way others see us.
Nicolas Reza: Impasse (PL) 16 min
Piotrek is attacked by a group of guys from his school. Through his struggles, he meets Arek - a taxi driver who decides to help him and take him home. During their journey, the taxi driver makes the boy a special offer.
Mehdi Parizad: It builds a life (IR) 13 min
It was supposed to build a life, not ruin it.

Nikolett Fábián: Resting Fog (HU) 5 min
Resting Fog The experimental animated film Resting fog depicts the process of reliving a memory – and the disintegration that follows – through a series of associative images. The film takes place in a fictional, dreamlike sanatorium surrounded by the sea and the setting sun.
Réka Bucsi: Intermission (HU) 5 min
R​epetitive still standing movement​, an exploration of the visual image for its own sake.​ A projection of mental images, which are formed while listening to music.
Tal Kantor: Letter to a Pig (FR) 17 min
A Holocaust survivor reads a letter he wrote to the pig who saved his life. A young schoolgirl hears his testimony in class and sinks into a twisted dream where she confronts questions of identity, collective trauma, and the extremes of human nature.
Saule Matvienko: Progress (RU) 2 min
The genesis, growth, and progress of the line in Paul Klee’s painting.
Levente Zsigmond Hajdu, Ákos Nagy: J’écoute les sons étouffés dans la pluie (HU) 16 min
After a short period of research and exploration we decided to use a hybrid approach that incorporates several analogue and digital techniques. Initially we collected fast-motion footage but then we considered this so far removed from my composition that we abandoned it and created a result with several special tools.
Raoul Faure: Martyr (FR) 8 min
The first years of Marcel’s life are very happy. He lives in maternal love, until Sophie’s birth. There, Marcel plunges into a spiral of loneliness and sadness.
Diana Cam Van Nguyen: Love, Dad (CZ) 12 min
She finds letters full of love her dad wrote her 15 years ago. Now she fights to get that love back.

 

20:30 ANIMATION COMPETITION C
Nikolaus Jantsch: The Music that you play (A) 4 min
The music that you play’ is a song by Austrian band Yellow Mellow, the music video is created by animation artist Nikolaus Jantsch using a technique called “direct animation”, or “drawn on film”. The footage was produced by painting, drawing and scratching directly on 16mm film. With the help of nowadays software, this century old technique supports the character of the engaging music with a fresh approach, turning great sound into a rousing visual imagery. “You say, you have no feelings for this world outside your room. You say the only healing is that the music is going on.” This first two lines of the song beautifully describe the feelings of many: seeing music as a sanctuary from the uncomfortable, daily life.
Nikita Diakur: Backflip (DE) 13 min
Attempting a backflip is not safe. You can break your neck, or land on your head, or land badly on your wrists. None of that is nice, so my avatar does the trick. It practices on a 6-core processor with the help of Machine Learning.
Anna Kadykova: Bear Speculation (RU) 11 min
The Idiot and the Cat live together in a complete jazz madness. The Idiot is always busy with his own business: he tries to learn French, and a minute later he plays the contrabass. And the Cat cuts pieces of paper all the time.

Strangers come to visit the home of a young couple. Destruction of the established order and harmony within the family.

Confessions of a person suffering from alcoholism. Based on works made by Paul Klee.

It’s not so easy to be a hero. But you, Pentola, you are my superhero.
Joachim Hérissé: Skinned (FR) 15 min
In an old building, lost in the middle of the swamp, live two strange women, Siamese twins by one leg. At night, the Flayed has terrifying nightmares in which she sees her sister’s flesh covering her own body...

The protagonist of the story is Ania who is freegan, performance artist and a member of Extinciton Rebelion organization. . “Time to revolt” is a documentary short film, a portrait of modern Poland through eyes of young activist.
Péter Szalay: No command! (HU) 71 min +DISCUSSION - without subtitles and translation
1989 – the reinvention of Europe. A regime that has been in power for 40 years suddenly collapses, the borders get redrawn.

Star Bazancir, Jasmina Pusök: Courage (SW) 16 min
We were created out of love, but something has been taken away from us. Meet Jasmina and Miriam, who took the courage to break free from a life of despair in prostitution.
Mátyás Kálmán: Paying a Visit to Fortuna (HU) 74 min
A middle-aged couple living in a small town in Hungary won the lottery, while they were struggling to cope with everyday life. A personal story of this unordinary couple - their delight and the difficulties they had to face.

Rodrigo Sena: Urubá (BRA) 15 min
The spirit world around you takes place much more through the third eye than through the physical ones. To Luiz’s eyes, that which is invisible is not invisible thanks to his spiritual sensitivity.
Dér Asia: Howling like we do (SK) 90 min - without subtitles
Can an independent thinker and artist change society? Lajos Kassák was a self-educated working-class poet, a father of Hungarian Avant-garde, leftist thinker who believed in the revolutionary power of art. His life surpasses many historical eras; he lived under the left and right-wing dictatorships, through wars and revolutions.
