AWARD-WINNING FILMS at the 33rd MEDIAWAVE International Film and Music Festival
20 countries, 72 selected films, 3 evenings of colourful selections - a cinematic cavalcade in the heart of Budapest with more than 400 visitors. This is how the 33rd Mediawave International Film and Music Festival launched this year.
The Cirko-Gejzír Art Cinema in Budapest hosted the film festival between 25 and 27 April 2023. Of the more than 70 films selected, no fewer than 61 were included in the competition programme, which was open to entries in several categories. These categories included documentaries, animation, short fiction films and, last but not least, cross-art films, which are unconventional fusions of different artistic disciplines.
The films entered were selected by a two-round jury. Firstly, an internationally renowned pre-selection of 10 people looked at all the films submitted, and then, at the beginning of March, more than 40 students from 8 universities, from all over the world and from abroad, studying in the field of cinema, took part in the screening. They decided on the films they liked the most and the most professionally outstanding, and decided on the prizes awarded at the festival. The awards ceremony and screening of the winning films took place on 27 April at the Cinema Hall.

Mediawave Gathering did not stop in the capital. On 29 and 30 April, the Mediawave Community Get-together moved to Ravazd, where music and fun took centre stage alongside the films. Workshops, concerts and a maypole were installed to celebrate the Day of the Spring ReBirth, and the series of events continued in Ravazd at the end of May with a Pentecost Improvisation featuring foreign and local bands, film and circus.
